2025 Was A Really Dry Year Here
2025 will go down as an awfully dry year in Fayette County.
According to the LCRA Hydromet system, their gauge on the Colorado River above La Grange received just 29.16 inches of rain in 2025. Depending on your source, Fayette County historically averages between 36-40 inches of rain a year, so we are well shy of that mark The LCRA Hydromet gauges elsewhere in Fayette County were even lower than La Grange’s. Their gauge at Lake Fayette received just 23.12 inches of rain in 2025 and their gauge on Buckner’s Creek near Muldoon received just 26.20 inches.
The scope of the drought locally is even more pronounced because most of the rain in 2025 came during the first half of the year. By the first week in July we’d passed the 20-inch mark of rainfall here at the La Grange gauge, but we have had less than 10 inches of rain over the past six months since. – Jeff Wick
