La Grange’s annual downtown Christmas celebration, Schmeckenfest, starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec 4, and ends at 8 p.m. that evening.

This is the 18th annual version of the holiday fest.

The parade on the courthouse square will commence at 5:15 p.m., with the State Qualifying La Grange High School Band marching us in to get things started, and the parade ends with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This year, there are 22 booths serving free wassail – all vying for the title of Schmeckenmeister, voted on by wassail-tasting attendees. Also 13 local organizations will be set up and selling food, so you can help yourself to the delicious offerings of La Grange while supporting great causes in the community. There will also be 13 participants offering activities and other entertainment for guests of all ages.

This year there are several special festival-related events going on at the Texas Quilt Museum area. Not only will Santa and Mrs. Claus be in the museum garden for pictures, but guests are invited to enjoy a night of free admission to the museum, take a train ride with the folks from the adjacent MK- T Depot Museum, and visit the Adopt-A-Pet “Snuggle Station” sponsored by the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter.
