The 171st Round Top Fourth of July Event Coming Up

As times are returning to normal regarding the pandemic, so is the long standing Round Top 4th of July Celebration, which was celebrated for the first time in 1851.

The 4th of July has been celebrated nonstop since that date, not even pausing for the Civil War during the early 1860s. This year’s celebration for the 171st time is gearing up for one of the largest and best ever, since the 4th falls on a Sunday.

Activities begin on the Town Square at 10 a.m. with welcoming remarks by local officials and dignitaries. As tradition has it, the shooting of Round Top’s cannon will signal the start of the grand parade. After winding its way through the streets of picturesque Round Top, it will end on the grounds of the Round Top Rifle Assn., where a delicious noon meal of BBQ chicken and sausage, complete with sides will be served. The meal will be offered for dine in or as drive-through starting at 11:30 a.m.

Dine-in attendees can enjoy the patriotic strains of music delivered by the Round Top Brass Band and the acclaimed Cool Freddie’s vocal group from Tomball, and a chance to reconnect with some long-lost acquaintances.

As is customary, the biergarten will be in full swing to help fight off the sweltering heat of the Texas summer. A giant raffle for many great prizes, including a top-of-theline Grasshopper ZTR mower, will be held around 2 p.m.. Early tickets can be purchased at Round Top State Bank, Round Top Mercantile or from any RTRA member. The Round Top Rifle Assn. has been the sole sponsor of this event since 1882.
