Fayette County Teachers Now Eligible for COVID Vaccine

Texas teachers are now eligible for the Covid vaccine according to state health officials and Fayette County already has a plan in place to get shots in arms.

“We’ve been working on this for quite some time – we’ve been working with the school districts to identify their teachers who fall in the 1A and 1B categories and have requested vaccines specifically for those teachers. We were notified today that we have enough doses coming to cover all the teachers who want the shot who fall within those categories,” said Craig Moreau, Fayette County chief of emergency management.

State health officials said earlier this week that they expected to finish vaccinating older and most vulnerable Texans in the next few weeks and broaden eligibility to include more Texans by the end of the month.

That new group was expected to include teachers before Wednesday’s announcement, but officials have not said who else would be in that new “1C” group.

“We are excited to be able to offer the vaccines to the qualified teachers, and we’re really excited about the possibility of opening it up to all teachers. We have and will continue to request getting doses here so all residents of Fayette County can be vaccinated. We want to thank St Marks Hospital and DSHS Region 7 for providing vaccines to our teachers who are in the 1A and 1B categories,” he said.
