Attorney General Ken Paxton has asked the Texas Supreme Court to remove 13 of the more than 50 House Democrats who fled the state to break quorum and effectively halt the special session to prevent a mid-decade redistricting plan, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Good “Old” Country Music

My son’s father is a musician and after we were married, I usually tagged along with him to his various gigs, sometimes just a smoky bar, sometimes nicer music venues. He was in a hugely popular country rock band in the ‘70s based out of Houston. They had a couple of reunions in the ‘80s and one time Nanci Griffith opened for them. She was not well received by the audience; she was too tame; they wanted their loud country rock to begin. After her performance she was humiliated and in tears but she went on to fame and fortune and no longer had anything to cry about.

Planning My Future, While I Still Remember I Have One

The horizon to my future is looking a bit closer than it did last year, last month, or even yesterday. Nothing’s wrong with me— unless you count my shoulders and knees inching toward each other, my once-bouncy stride developing a wobble, and my hair retiring early from both shine, color and scalp.

Embrace Our History

To the Editor: Fellow citizens of La Grange: Since I am the drainage czar, people have really approached and complimented me on my work. Jack Thompson says he is actually doing something with this problem.

Declining Population

To the Editor: Our nation is experiencing many headwinds, including birth-rate decline. Current population projections predict there will be 1.62 births per woman, less than the 2.1 rate needed to produce stable population growth.

Let’s Help the Shelter

To the Editor: Supplementing Les Mallory’s letter in the last issue of The Record, let me recount my recent experience with the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange. As dog lovers like so many of our friends in Fayette County, we’ve run, over the years, what one could call an adhoc rescue operation.

“Mending Walls”

To the Editor: The poem “Mending Walls” by Robert Frost was written in 1914. The first line states“Something there is that doesn’t love a wall.” Either man or nature is always tearing down the wall.
