No Response

To The Editor:

I have purchased one half dozen of the Schmeckenfest mugs at Christmas time ever since they became available. I am 94 years old and do not like to drive too much. So, for the last several years, I have purchased them from the Visitor’s Center and have them mailed to me. Now the tradition is coming to an end. I have tried for the past five weeks to purchase them from the Visitor’s Center but have received no response from the Center or the City of La Grange. Or, are the mugs even available this year?

I have strong ties to Fayette County. My heritage goes back four generations to Round Top and Carl Bauer. I also have relatives buried in the Florida Chapel Cemetery.

By the way, I have a private library of approximately 290 titles, mostly Texan. I have already made arrangements with Rox Ann that at my passing, all books will go to the Fayette Memorial Library for her to use as she so desires, no strings attached. In addition to these books, I have already donated 32 books to the library.

Oh well, I guess that all traditions eventually come to an end.
