To the Editor: Hans von Spakovsky, the manager of the Election Law reform Initiative and Senior legal fellow in the Ewin Meese III Center, writes in the Daily Signal, “Contrary to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ nutty claim that Republicans are trying to “steal the midterm elections” by redistricting in Texas, state legislators there are trying to correct what the Justice Department correctly calls “unconstitutional racially based” gerrymanders. Their fix will ensure that the over 2 million new residents of Texas get what they are entitled to in Congress: fair representation.” We are told by the New York Gov.

As I entered the chicken house each day to pick eggs I can say that’s one time I did a chore in a big hurry. You see this place was always hopping with fleas.

Texas Democrats left the state Sunday in hopes of derailing a mid-decade redistricting plan, The Dallas Morning News reported.

State Rep. Gene Wu, D-Houston, announced the Democrats had left the state to break the quorum and stymie a vote in that chamber.

“This is not a decision we make lightly, but it is one we make with absolute moral clarity,” Wu said in a statement. “Governor [Greg] Abbott has turned the victims of a historic tragedy into political hostages in his submission to [President] Donald Trump.”

It is that time of year again. A new school year begins. All the kids are excited about a new set of crayons that hasn’t been used yet, the new tennis shoes that will make them run faster this year, the new backpack, the new Star Wars or Dukes of Hazzard lunchbox, and for sure the new Trapper Keeper. Well, I may be dating myself with those references, but those days seem like yesterday. Isn’t it amazing how quickly time flies? For me, it feels like the new school year excitement was just the other day.

Sharon Tate’s houseguest rubbed the sleep from his eyes on Aug. 9, 1969 and asked the tall intruder who he was and what he wanted. “I’m the devil,” answered Charles “Tex” Watson, “and I’m here to do the devil’s business.”

Charlie Manson sent the 23 year old Texan and three young women to an address in Bel Air, California with orders to “totally destroy everyone in that house, as gruesome as you can.” Dressed in black and armed with hunting knives, the quartet arrived at the gated estate around midnight. Only Watson carried a gun, a longbarrel .22 revolver.

Leash Your Dogs

To the Editor: As a followup to the two last week’s letters regarding unleashed dogs, I too, am very adamant about people following the rules and having their dogs on leashes when they are out for walks with their owners, and also those that run around the neighborhood without their owners. I have experienced this in my neighborhood for almost three years now, as there is a resident who never puts his dog on a leash as he walks and allows the dog to go do his potty runs all over other people’s yards.
