The dogwoods are blooming, like they usually do every year when it gets close to Easter. A reader called me this week to report a particularly majestic dogwood tree in bloom.

The deep breath of relief seeped through my body as the juice of the vaccine squirted from the needle into my arm. I didn’t shout with joy.

I feel like a chicken that escaped its coop when the door was left open. First, I poke my head outside and look around to see if anyone is around. My next move is to walk out of the cage and enjoy freedom as the rest of the world. I look back to see if it is safer where I was; or go for it and be home here.

Is it strange to know you’re hungry and have zero appetite? To look through the fridge, the pantry, and see nothing you would even consider eating, not even ice cream? It certainly is for me. But this has been a strange year for us, so far.

Arthur D’Andrea, the chair and sole remaining member of the Public Utility Commission, resigned late last week at the request of Gov. Gregg Abbott. D’Andrea pledged to remain on the PUC until Abbott names a replacement. In the announcement Abbott said in part, “Texans deserve to have trust and confidence in the Public Utility Commission, and this action is one of many steps that will be taken to achieve that goal.”

Well my wife and I found out we were going to be grandparents. Our 17-year-old daughter Ella brought home the little bundle of joy – complete with a carrier and diaper bag – from school.

To the Editor: The new LG Market taking shape with a little help from the Prauses? In regard to the article printed in the Tuesday, March 23 Fayette County Record I must be confused. As a Prause that worked at our meat market for over 40 years I was under the impression when we sold the building and contents to the Hinojosa family we strictly sold them the building and the contents agreed upon.

To the Editor: Shout out to everyone about our hometown hospital. My hubby just had shoulder surgery there, could not have asked for better care.

For many years I didn’t believe I would ever retire. It was not a money issue, but a matter of desire. I loved working, and couldn’t imagine I wouldn’t want to work forever…or for as long as my health held out.
