C APITAL Highlights The Lone Star State continues to lead the nation in jobs added with 58,200 new positions in February, bringing the state to nearly 14 million total nonfarm jobs, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. February also marked two full years of uninterrupted job growth in the state.

T EXAS History Laredo voters observed a century-old custom on Apr. 6, 1886 by picking public servants for the coming year.

My maternal grandmother, Elsie (Wildner) Tiemann, was quite an Easter enthusiast: every year it was customary to have a new dress and shoes for the holiday, but one year she sewed complete Easter outfits for all three of us Citzler grandkids, and these were quite dressy, as I recall.

For those of us who live near or love the Colorado River, Stan Kitzman has filed a really troubling bill during his freshman year as our local representative in the state house. Kitzman has authored House Bill 2369, which would eliminate a newspaper notice requirement for applications to discharge pollutants into Texas waters.

Fayette County commissioners decided to use some of the county’s federal revenue sharing funds for the countywide ambulance service and the Bookmobile. They reserved $82,000 for financing the ambulance service and $8,000 for Fayette County’s share of paying for the tri-county Bookmobile. Residents paid for the use of the ambulance service: $35 per call or 60¢ a mile for out-ofcounty trips. The county was to make up the difference between payments and actual costs of providing the service. The balance of the remaining funds was on deposit drawing interest. The county had received $183,291 in federal funds for 1972 and expected to get a similar amount in 1973. Areas where federal funds could be used were: public safety (including law enforcement), fire protection and building code enforcement, environmental protection (including sewage disposal), public transportation (including streets and roads), health, recreation, libraries, social services for the poor or aged and financial administration.

Wait. Does that mean stop? Slow down? Cease moving? Is it an order or a state of being? A noun or a verb? I think of a hospital waiting room, where I sit anticipating information about the condition of a loved one’s surgery.

To the Editor: (In reference to last week’s letter): Yes, Ms. Hooper, we must absolutely eliminate structural injustice.

To the Editor: We wanted to write in and hope that our letter can be published, as we desire to shed light to the craftsmanship at Festival Hill concert hall while it was originally being constructed. It is our desire to bring bright light to our dear, dear old friend, the late Arnold Parsifka who was a superior woodworking craftsman who did not know how to read or write, and did not use a computer at all, but it was he who shared and taught his knowledge and superior skill and artistic abilities in woodworking craftsmanship.

To the Editor: Mr. Balch, thank you for expressing your hatred towards Donald Trump and for passively aggressively comparing him to Hitler.

To the Editor: I am concerned about the fate of our hospital. Having a community hospital to serve the needs of Fayette County is vitally important.
