To the Editor: I do not like to write things unless I can back them up, or give the news source. Otherwise, the letters I write may just be my personal sentiments, and I try to state that if so.

I was challenged this week to think about bridges, as in connecting with other people, other countries, other ideas, other languages. And it isn’t a subject I’ve thought about in great depth, until now.

The death of Bill Mitchell sometime in April 1928 closed the book on an epic Texas feud that lasted more than 50 years.

The trouble between the Mitchells and the Truitts started with an act of Christian charity. Cooney Mitchell took pity on the starving strangers he met that day in 1872 at the foot of Comanche Peak. Even though his own clan had precious little to spare, the generous patriarch gave the wretched immigrants food and shelter.

I love fresh peas from the garden. I’m amazed at how nature found a way to turn soil and sunlight into something green and sweet. I love the way they look growing up a trellis. They can provide a beautiful architectural element to the garden space.

To the Editor: In reference to Tuesday’s article in the Fayette County Record, I would like to add some context to the article and encourage Fayette County citizens to open their generous hearts to the children in “the system.” I have had the opportunity to visit the facility several times over the last few years both in a professional capacity and in a volunteer capacity with the La Grange Noon Lions. I have spoken to the CEO, and the staff on each occasion.
