Partisan Political Landscape

To the Editor:

(In reference to last week’s letter): Yes, Ms. Hooper, we must absolutely eliminate structural injustice. Absolutely. We can create an environment where ALL people have the opportunity to grow and learn and become all they can be; better Texans, better citizens, better human beings. But it’s literally impossible to legislate to create equality between people in all facets of life. We can create equal opportunity but it is up to each of us as individuals every day as to what we will do and become.

The division and animosity of modern politics is disgusting. I disagree with both political parties on many things. Part of the problem is a federal government that for many generations has believed it alone can determine or know what is best to solve every problem in every state for every person. Politics has become extreme and unreasonable. It’s one way or the other, depending on which political party is in charge. Gone are the days of live and let live and freedom to agree to disagree. In this vitriolic partisan political environment, peace, liberty, and our mutual welfare i.e. the common good, have all been withering on the vine, more rapidly with each passing year.

I encourage everyone to take a close look at the platform of the Libertarian National Party. It makes a lot of sense.
