Trump’s Tantrums

To the Editor: The original field of Republican candidates for President 2024 was crowded – 14 Republicans had announced their Presidential campaign objectives. Several of these presidential candidates debated publicly on a stage in August 2023.

On Book Banning

To the Editor: When I read the disturbing story by Regina Keilers about the fate of four books and the discussion about it, I was floored by the reasons to ban the books, the procedure to come to it and the time it took to discuss it. Fortunately your editorial in Friday’s paper covered most of my opinions about it.

Democrats Lead on Deception

To the Editor: This is the favorite tactic of Democrats to accuse others of misinformation and lies when the Democrats are not only the ones who coined the phrase, they are the all-time leaders of misinformation and lies. If they didn’t use misinformation and lies, they wouldn’t have anything to say at all.

The Monster in the Attic

In 1948 I was 4 years old. The house we lived in at that time was an “L” shaped frame house. One half of the top part of this house was used by my older brother George and me to sleep in. There was just one bed and the rest of the room was used for storage. The other half of this attic did not have a floor to walk on.

The Amazing Legacy of Annie Webb Blanton

From Stone 46, one of the “FOOTPRINTS OF FAYETTE” on the Courthouse Lawn: “Annie Webb Blanton (1870-1945), a La Grange High School graduate, was the first Texas woman elected to statewide office when she became State Superintendent for Public Instruction in 1918.”

Remember When?

La Grange firefighters knocked out in short order what could have developed into a serious fire at the Anton Vasek Cafe in the Riverside addition just west of La Grange at 9 a.m. on Friday. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the kitchen stove in flames and a small blaze had started in the attic. The fire was thought to have been caused by a pan of grease on the stove that spilled over and ignited. When Mr. Vasek was in the cafe earlier, he thought he had turned off the burner but apparently had not done so. Damage was minor.
