Herb Society Meets
The May meeting of the Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America was held at St. John’s United Church in Burton. The unit was treated to an informative presentation titled “Bitter is Better.” Members learned about the various bitter herbs and plants, including sorrel, gentian, dandelion, chard, chicory, collards, kale, and others.
Members Mary Doebbeling and Sara Holland told about the health benefits of these plants and showed ways to use them in cooking.
On June 9 at 10 a.m., the society will again meet at St. John’s in Burton where Greg Grant will talk about “Heirloom Gardening in the South.” Anyone wishing to attend Greg Grant’s presentation must register in advance at the Pioneer Unit’s website at https://www.herbsocietypioneer.org.
All interested persons are welcome to sign up to attend what promises to be an interesting presentation.
