St. Paul Hosting Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper

St. Paul in Fayetteville will host a pancake supper on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 13. This event is open to the public and will benefit the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department. The dinner will be from 5:30-7 p.m. at the church, 201 N. Rusk in Fayetteville. All you can eat pancakes, sausages and beverages will be served.

The four churches in Shared Lutheran Ministry will each take turns hosting the Wednesday Lenten Services.

Food Pantry Serves Over 300 Families In January

The AMEN Food Pantry continued to be very busy in the month of January. Three hundred and thirty families were served for the month for a total of 1,013 individuals. A total of 135 volunteers for 290 hours served the pantry. A total of 5,204 pounds of food were donated. When comparing to 2019, five years ago, the pantry served 174 families for a total of 504 individuals, as noted the volume has almost doubled in five years.

The mobile food pantry at Waldeck was cancelled on Jan. 16 due to inclement weather conditions.

Armadillo Predicts Early Spring

Fayette County animal expert and rancher Ralph Fisher was again in Bee Cave outside Austin on Groundhog Day (Feb. 2) with his armadillos for the annual Texas version of the weather-prediction-byanimal party. Since 2010 Fisher has been providing an armadillo for a festivities, which has grown into one of the biggest Groundhog Day events this side of Pennsylvania. This year the groundhog in Punxsutawney, PA, predicted an early spring as did Fisher’s armadillo.

WACA Domino Tournament, Fried Chicken Dinner Feb. 18

The annual domino tournament and fried chicken dinner, sponsored by WACA, has been set for Sunday, Feb. 18 at the St. Michaels’s Park Pavilion in Winchester, with dinner beginning at 11 a.m. The tournament will start at 1 p.m with both “Straight” and “42” dominos being played. Dinner will be $15 a plate and the registration for the tournament being $10 per player. There will be a silent auction and dinners “to go orders” will be available.
