Fayette Savings Bank School Spirit Program Delivers $2,500 to LGISD

Fayette Savings Bank (FSB) proudly presented a $2,500 check to La Grange ISD at its February board meeting from its School Spirit Debit Card Program. To date, $25,500 has been generated through the program in its four years of existence and passed on to participating schools: La Grange, Schulenburg, Flatonia and Weimar ISDs, as well as Sacred Heart School in La Grange, St. Rose School in Schulenburg, and St. Michael School in Weimar. Another school recently added is Fayetteville ISD. Every transaction/purchase made with the card earns a monetary contribution from FSB to the school on the card. “This program is what true, local community banking is all about – affording a program to customers who have a strong affinity for a local school an opportunity to give back to that school indirectly by simply making everyday purchases with the card,” says Mike Olle, FSB VP-Business Develop-ment. “Plus, there’s a certain amount of pride felt when taking that card out of your wallet, seeing that school mascot or logo – knowing you’re helping make a difference with each use.”
On hand as Fayette Savings Bank presented a check to La Grange ISD through its School Spirit Debit Card Program were (from left): Andy McHazlett, LGISD Superintendent; Wade Mozisek, FSB President/CEO; Diana Fitzpatrick, LGISD Director of Finance; Gary Drab, LGISD Board President; Darlene Brothers, FSB Sr. Vice President, Deposit Services.

Trying a Unique New Tomato

This spring I’m going to try to grow a unique tomato relative, Solanum sisymbriifolium. As the genus name implies, it is a member of the nightshade family ( Solanaceae).
The Litchi tomato ( Solanum sisymbriifolium) is a thorny plant related to regular tomatoes. The fruits are said to taste like a sweet and sour cherry with a hint of tomato flavor. I’m going to try growing it this spring. Photo from Wikimedia Commons
