Members of the La Grange Senior Association enjoyed lunch and the theater in Brenham on Sunday, Feb. 15. The group started off with lunch at Must Be Heaven. This was the second time the group visited there in recent years. Everyone likes the variety and the quality of all the dishes.

Next, they went around the corner to the Unity Theatre and enjoyed the final performance of Ken Ludwig’s “Dear Jack, Dear Louise.”

The play is based on the real-life courtship of Ludwig’s parents. The audience follows the introduction and courtship via letters of Jack and Louise during World War II. Jack, a doctor, stationed in Oregon, writes to Louise, an aspiring actress and dancer in New York. At first his letters are formal while hers are inquisitive and full of humor.

The audience sees and hears the letters as they are being written or read by each character. Over time a friendship develops with the hopes of meeting someday. While Louise does get to meet Jack’s family, his hope of a four day pass keeps falling through. Even though they have never met in person, they fall in love. Jack is shipped off to Europe leaving Louise to worry about his safety. No spoilers, but the senior group was happy with the ending. Several commented that it was the best play they had seen at Unity.
