The La Grange soccer teams had their district openers Tuesday and both teams lost to Taylor. At home, the Lady Leps fell to the Lady Ducks 6-0.

The La Grange boys basketball team improved to 2-0 in district with an 83-44 road victory at Caldwell Tuesday. Brandon Mathis led the Leps in scoring with 21 points and Conner Brooks had 12.

Led by a 33-point performance by Kylie Trlicek and 23 from Campbell Cooper, the La Grange girls basketball team went on the road Tuesday and beat Caldwell 75-51. The Lady Leps are now 18-9 overall and 3-1 in district and host Navasota Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Last year Brandon Mathis played basketball for Giddings. This year the 6-foot-5 sophomore star, who is averaging 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and 11 points per game, is playing for La Grange.

La Grange head volleyball and girls track coach and Assistant Athletic Director Leslie Coltrain is leaving LGISD after seven seasons with the Lady Leps. She is heading to 4AChina Spring, near Waco, where she will be the head volleyball and assistant track coach.

La Grange’s J.K. Dobbins ran for a team high 26 yards on nine carries but his Los Angeles Chargers lost their first round playoff game to the Texans 32-12 Saturday in Houston. Dobbins is now an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team before next season.
