State Domino Tourney Jan. 19; Game Supper 25th

The 73rd Texas State Championship Domino Tournament will be held Sunday Jan. 19, at the K of C Hall in Hallettsville. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and playing will begin at 9 a.m. sharp. A consolation tournament will be held immediately for the 1st two setting of losers with 2 plaques given to the winners of the consolation tournament plus cash.

Sodek Scores 2,000th Point

Flatonia star junior basketball player Summer Sodek scored her 2,000th career point with the Lady Bulldogs in last Friday’s district victory over Louise. Sodek and the Flatonia girls have built a 18-4 overall record and 5-0 mark in district.

Leps 14-8 Heading Into District Opener

The La Grange boys basketball team has wrapped up the non-district portion of its schedule with a 14-8 record with a busy stretch of games over the holiday break. The Leps are coming off a 58-48 road loss to Bandera on Monday.

Lady Leps Start District 1-1

The La Grange girls basketball team has started its district season with a 1-1 record and are now 17-9 overall. Friday the Lady Leps lost at home to Smithville 61-60 despite 23 points from Campbell Cooper, but Tuesday La Grange bounced back on the road to down Bellville 60-32. Kylie Trlicek led La Grange with 17 points in that game.

Another Houston Steps Into the Spotlight in Schulenburg

The Houston family has a long history of great athletes in Schulenburg, and junior Daterrion Houston is adding to that legacy. He was an all-district running back in football this season and is a powerful force on the Shorthorns basketball team as well.

After two games of their district season, the Schulenburg boys basketball team was in a unfamiliar spot – last place. “We’re not used to that,” said longtime Shorthorns head coach Richard Hoogendoorn.
