It was a rematch the La Grange softball players had been waiting weeks for – and it showed. From the start Monday, the Lady Leps looked like a team on a mission as they batted around in the first inning and never looked back on their way to 7-3 win over district rival Smithville.

Led by strong performances in the relays and two sprint titles by Austen Diggs, the La Grange boys won the District 22-4A team title Tuesday in Taylor. The Lady Leps were second behind Giddings. Last week the field events and 3200 meters were held (those results ran in Tuesday’s edition) but the other running finals were washed out by rain until Tuesday. Here are those Tuesday finals. The 50th anniversary recognition of the 1973 La Grange State Baseball Championship team was rescheduled because of bad weather and will now be Friday, April 14, preceding the 7 p.m. varsity baseball contest vs. Caldwell at the La Grange High School baseball stadium. The District 22-4A track meet began last Wednesday in Taylor, but Thursday’s running finals were postponed until this Tuesday. Distance and Field event finals were held Wednesday. The top four placers in each event advance to the area meet April 19 in La Grange. Here are the La Grange athletes who placed:

The Schulenburg and Flatonia track teams competed at the District 28-2A meet Wednesday in Ganado. Here’s how the Fayette County athletes fared. The top four in each event advance to the area meet April 12 in Weimar.

The La Grange baseball and softball home games that were rained out Thursday have been rescheduled for Monday, April 10. The second place Leps (3-2 in district) will host district- leading Taylor Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Several La Grange girls soccer players have earned honors on the 24-4A alldistrict team announced last week. Utility Player of the Year Ellee Sodolak, Sr.

The Schulenburg Shorthorns finished 2nd as a team in the district golf tournament Monday in Weimar with a team score of 375. Weimar finished 1st with a score of 374. Reid Janda with a score of 81 and Kaz McBride with a score of 85 finished 1st and 2nd as individuals. Other Horns competing were Jackson Faith, Brycen Schramek, Jayse Janda, Van Prihoda, Kenny Schramek, and Cooper Demel. Lady Horns competing were Makena Kopecky and Larissa Bohlmann.

The La Grange baseball team lost its first district game of the season Tuesday at Taylor, falling 7-2. The Leps are now 8-11 overall and 3-1 in district.

Monday Fayetteville hosted the District 29-- 1A track meet. The Fayetteville boys and the Round Top-Carmine girls won the team titles.
