Abbott – again. For the second time in six years the only thing that stood between the Fayetteville Lions baseball team and another state title were those darn Abbott Panthers.

History does repeat itself. Two years after the Fayetteville baseball team knocked off Nazareth 4-0 in the state semifinals, the Lions did so again Wednesday – same score, same opponent, same round.

They already have their diplomas. But they have one more test left.

Fayetteville left no doubt who the best baseball team in the region was. After blasting D’Hanis 11-1 in the opening game of their region 4-1A finals Tuesday, the Lions slammed the door on the Cowboys’ hopes of repeating as state champs with a 12-4 win in the series finale Thursday at Texas State.
