Four County Baseball Teams Ready for Postseason

The high school baseball playoffs start this week, and four Fayette County teams are in the postseason. Here’s a look at their upcoming games: • In Class 4A, the La Grange Leps begin the playoffs with a best-of-three series against Burnet.

Flatonia Softball Team Wins First Round Playoff Series

Even though the Flatonia softball team was fourth in their district, and they had to play a district champion Refugio team in the first round of the playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs were not intimidated. They swept Refugio 6-2 and 15-2 last week to advance to the area round. They will now face Freer in a bestof-three series. All games are at Somerset HS. Game 1 is Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is Friday and if necessary Game 3 would be Saturday at 1 p.m.

RT-C Has Momentum as Playoffs Loom

The Round Top-Carmine baseball team finished its regular season strong with a pair of wins over Snook last week, 5-2 Tuesday and 9-5 Friday. In Tuesday’s game, Kannyn Goehring had two hits and scored two runs, and Tanner Schobel drove in two runs.

La Grange Softball Team Falls in Playoff Opener

The La Grange softball team saw its season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion Thursday in a 3-2 loss to Gateway Prep in the first round of the 4A playoffs in Elgin. La Grange led this one 2-0 after scoring single runs on both the first and third innings.

Locals Earn Spots at State Track Meet

It was regional track meet weekend, and a host of Fayette County athletes have qualified for the state track meet in two weeks in Austin. The top two qualifiers in each event advance to state, while some third place finishers can also earn a berth if they are the best bronze medalist out of the four regions.

Coaching Move

Giddings head football coach Wade Griffin has been named the new athletic director and head football coach at Weimar, replacing Ryan McIver, who resigned last month after four seasons at Weimar. Griffin has been at Giddings for four seasons with a 28-20 record, through Giddings went just 2-8 last season.

Dela Rosa a Huge Senior Leader for District Champion LG Softball Team

La Grange senior softball player Abby Dela Rosa has put opponents on notice with her skill in both volleyball and softball. In a recent outing against Smithville, she pitched a complete game and drove in the game-winning run to seal a 2-1 victory. Dela Rosa is going to play college softball next year at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio as she’s covered tons of ground for the Lady Leps throughout her career in many aspects.
