Local Athletes Compete At AAU Nationals & Club Championships

The LC Express Track Club had sixty- four (64) athletes to compete at the AAU District Meet June 15-16 at D.W. Rutledge Stadium Converse, Tx. Fifty-nine (59) athletes advanced to the Region 19 Meet June 28-30 at D.W. Rutledge Stadium. Forty-three (43) athletes went on to compete at the AAU Track & Field Primary Nationals Championships July 7-8 and Club Championships July 9-13 held at the University of North Florida - Hodges Stadium, Jacksonville, Florida.

LG All-Stars Fall in Tourney Opener

Sunday in New Braunfels, the La Grange Intermediate All-Stars began the Southwest Regionals with a 8-1 loss to San Antonio Northside. The tournament is double elimination.

Fishing Report

Water normal stain; 95 degrees. Bass bite has slowed some after the recent weather. Bass are good early until about 8 a.m. on shallow points with square bill crankbaits and underspins. Then target bass in 1525 feet of water with Carolina rigs and shaky heads. Bluegill are biting in 3-6 feet of water on rocky banks with nightcrawlers. Catfish are slow.

Supak Keeps Rolling for Cubs Triple-A Team

La Grange native Trey Supak had a strong outing Saturday for the Chicago Cubs Triple-A team in Des Moines, pitching five innings of one-run ball and striking out five and being the winning pitcher in a 4-3 victory over Nashville.

Aschenbeck Drafted by the Cubs

On Tuesday, Texas A&M left-handed reliever Evan Aschenbeck was selected in the 13th round, 392nd overall, by the Chicago Cubs in the 2024 MLB Draft. Aschenbeck, 23, is from Brenham and pitched for Blinn before A&M, but has several local connections, including that just days ago he and Round Top-Carmine graduate Kate Eilers announced their engagement.
