2022 State Track Meet Snapshots

It was a very busy state track meet Saturday for Round Top-Carmine senior Ilse Salinas. She won state bronze in the 1A long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 0.25-inches. She was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet, 9-inches. Then she was seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.74 and finally fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.64.

Great Name, Strong Game

Flatonia freshman baseball player Titan Targac is a multisport athlete who does damage in all aspects. In Flatonia’s most recent playoff baseball run, Targac blasted a 380 foot grand slam and followed it up by tossing a perfect game on the hill in the next round.

Fayetteville Beats RT-C in Playoffs

The Fayetteville baseball team beat Round Top-Carmine in both ends of a 1A regional semifinal playoff doubleheader Wednesday in Brenham. The Lions won the first game 7-3 on the strength of a Reid Gross complete game. Then in the night game, Fayetteville won 13-0 as freshman pitcher Chance Konvicka hurled a no-hitter. Fayetteville, the defending state champs, now advances to the regional finals, where they will play either Knippa or D’Hanis. Above, Gross slides in for a run in Game 2. Basketball Camp

La Grange will be hosting a middle school girls basketball camp from May 31-June 2 at the middle school gym. Session 1 will be held 12:30 p.m.

Rusk Eliminates Leps Again The La Grange baseball team saw its season come to an end at the hands of defending state runner-up Rusk Friday in a doubleheader loss in the area round of the 4A playoffs. This marks the second consecutive season Rusk eliminated the Leps in this round, and the same two hurlers were responsible both seasons.

Meredith Magliolo Jumping to New Heights for Schulenburg

Schulenburg track phenom Meredith Magliolo recently tied for the best mark at regionals (5-3) in the high jump, so she will be heading to the state track championship meet at the University of Texas this week.
