Will Kates Hired as the Head Coach In Merkel

Former La Grange offensive coordinator/assistant head football coach Will Kates was hired Thursday as the new head football coach at 3A Merkel in West Texas.

His hiring makes all three Kates brothers current head coaches: The eldest Ged Kates is head coach at 5A Richland, Matt Kates is head coach in La Grange. Will is the youngest.

This may be the first time in Texas history that three brothers are head football coaches at the same time. Will Kates spent last season as offensive coordinator at Fort Worth Paschal.
