Volleyball Round Up: LG Falls, Schulenburg & RT-C Keep Rolling
Taylor Beats La Grange
The La Grange varsity volleyball team went on the road Friday and lost a district match to Taylor 25-22, 25-13, 25-22.
The Lady Leps are now 13-19 overall and 1-1 in district.
Carley Ulrich led the team in kills with 14.
Jena Jobb led in digs with 15 and Haylie Cooper had 14.
Kylie Trlicek had three aces and Cooper had two.
Trlicek led in digs with 16 and Phoebe Tucker had nine.
Kenna Lamza had two blocks.
The Lady Leps host Caldwell Tuesday in another district volleyball match. Varsity will start about 6 p.m.
District 22-4A Volleyball
Taylor 3-0 Giddings 2-0 Caldwell 2-0 La Grange 1-1 Smithville 0-2 Manor NT 0-2 Austin Achieve 0-3 In subvarsity action last week, the La Grange JV defeated Taylor 25-17, 27-25 and also won the Cedar Creek Tournament. Results were: defeated Travis 25-8, 25-2 defeated Cedar Creek 2516, 25-22 defeated Gateway Prep 25-18, 25-10 The JV team is 1-1 in district and 12-8 overall.
The La Grange Freshmen volleyball team defeated Taylor 25-12, 25-10 Friday and also won the Cedar Creek freshman tourney last week. Results were: defeated Cedar Creek 2519, 25-23 defeated Travis 25-17, 25-7 defeated St Andrews 2512, 25-15 The Lady Leps freshmen are 1-1 in district and 9-11 overall.
Schulenburg Sweeps Poth
The Schulenburg volleyball team got a huge winner of perennial power Poth Friday, sweeping the Pirettes 27-25, 28-26, 25-20.
Landry Zapalac had 34 assists, four aces and seven digs.
Jessalyn Gipson and Emmrie Marx each had a teamhigh 11 kills. Reagan Dusek and Meredith Magliolo each had five kills.
Kieryn Adams had 22 digs and Madison Kunschick had 12.
The Lady Horns improved to 20-12 with the victory.
Zapalac Honored
For the 2nd week in a row the Lady Horns have an athlete named to the Volleyball Magazine Dream Team. Congratulations to Schulenburg’s Landry Zapalac for being named to the Volleyball Magazine Dream Team for September 13th. Every Wednesday during the high school season, VolleyballMag.com will recognize a Dream Team of high school volleyball players throughout the nation who were standouts the week before.
Here’s the write-up on Zapalac from the magazine: Landry Zapalac, 5-5 Soph., Schulenburg (Texas) – Zapalac led the Shorthorns to a 3-0 week. The sophomore recorded 120 assists over 11 sets while adding 22 digs, 8 aces, 7 kills and 7 blocks. She also tied the school record for assists in a match with 59.
RTC Wins Aggieland Tournament Title
The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team won the Gold Bracket title at the Aggieland Tournament over the weekend.
The Cubettes now have a 23-7 overall record.
In pool play the Cubettes started the tourney with a 2515, 25-19 victory over Waco Liberty with Jill Eilers getting five kills, Maggie Salinas getting 12 digs and Mallory Krause getting 11 assists.
Then the Cubettes beat International Leadership of Texas Aggieland 25-8, 25-3 as Jessica Rohde had five kills.
RT-C then beat Houston Homeschool Athletics of Conroe 27-25, 25-17 as Krause had six kills, eight digs and 10 assists and Jill Eilers had seven kills.
Then in the Gold Bracket quarterfinals Saturday they beat Logos Prep Academy of Sugar Land 25-15, 25-13 with Kennedy Flinn getting six kills.
They then beat BVCHEA Homeschool of Bryan in three sets in the semis.
In the title match they beat Meridian 25-19, 25-18. Here are the full stats from that match: Mallory Krause 5 kills, 11 digs, 17 assists, 1 ace; Kennedy Flinn 1 kill, 1 solo block, 3 digs; Kaysie Ward 10 kills, 1 solo block; Jessica Rohde 1 kill; Jill Eilers 5 kills, 6 digs, 6 assists, 1 ace; Maggie Salinas 9 digs, 2 assists; Kim Rohde 3 kills, 10 digs, 2 aces; Avery Nelius 2 digs.
Fayetteville Falls to Weimar
The Fayetteville volleyball team lost to Weimar Friday 15-11, 25-23, 25-18.
The loss drops the Lady Lions overall record to 1019. Individual stats were not available at press time.
