Volleyball: Local Small School Teams Keep Smashing Larger Competition

The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team improved to 12-6 this season with a sweep of Louise Thursday 25-12, 2510, 25-14.

Here are the Cubettes’ stats from that match: Madison Markwardt 3 kills, 9 digs, 30 assists, 7 aces; Bree Dooley 13 kills, 1 assist block, 9 digs, 4 assists; Caydan Nelius 2 kills, 2 assist blocks, 1 dig; Hayden Kasmiersky 4 kills, 1 assist block, 2 digs; Rebekah Sacks 2 kills, 1 assist; Morgan Nelius 10 kills, 11 digs, 3 aces; Liliana Salinas 2 digs, 1 ace; Reagan Williams 7 digs, 1 ace; Avery Lamson 1 kill, 3 digs, 1 ace.

Fayetteville

The Fayetteville volleyball team went 5-3 at the Rice Consolidated Tournament last week, beating Wharton, Rice, Ganado, Gonzales and Sacred Heart, but falling to St. Paul, Hallettsville and Burton.

In that win over Wharton Lainey Gromaski had seven kills and Lilly Aldape had six. Emily Keilers had four aces and Scotti Beseda had three. Keilers led in digs with eight, and Beseda had a team-high 16 assists.

The Lady Lions are now 13-7 overall.

La Grange

The La Grange volleyball team (11-9) was off Friday. The Lady Leps return to action Tuesday at home against Wallis Brazos (the hometown school of new Lady Leps head coach Cierra McCain) at 5:30 p.m.

Schulenburg

The Schulenburg volleyball team went 5-3 at the Legends Tournament in Bryan. The Lady Horns are now 1513 overall. The Lady Horns beat Weimar twice, Alief Taylor, Caldwell and Austin Travis. Schulenburg lost to Midland, Brenham and Bryan.

In their tournament finale Saturday, their second win over Weimar, Jenna Guentert had 35 assists, Haylee Vacek had 16 kills, Greenli Van Zandt had 13 and Kimber Bartosch had nine. Miranda Bonner had 20 digs, Guentert had 14 and Vacek had 12. Aubryn Janda led in aces with three.

Flatonia

The Flatonia volleyball went 0-5 at the Goliad Tournament last week, falling to Calhoun, Navarro and Cornerstone on Day 1 and falling to St. Joseph and Rockport-Fulton on Day 2.
