Schulenburg Falls in Tough Opener to Hallettsville
The Schulenburg football team lost its season opener 49-0 at Hallettsville Friday in a game that was delayed because of Friday’s storm.
Among the bright spots for the Horns was the play of Caden Herzik, who caught a team-high five passes for 36 yards, and Tim Lara, who was the team’s leading rusher with 16 carries for 59 yards.
Schulenburg senior quarterback Owen Brenek ran for 58 yards and completed nine of 17 passes for 81 yards.
Hallettsville rushed for 351 yards led by a 101-yard night from Sutton Haynes.
Six different Brahmas ran for touchdowns Friday.
Schulenburg hits the road again this Friday when they play at Refugio, which is coming off a 40-0 loss to George West.
