Ulrich Powers Ledy Leps to Second Round Playoff Berth

La Grange volleyball player Carley Ulrich has been one of the premier attackers for the Lady Leps throughout the entire 2023 season and she has the stats to show for it. The outside hitter put the ball down so often that she tallied 372 kills for the ’23 tenure. She also helped lead her team to a first round playoff win against Houston Worthing last Monday.

“It’s been fun to see Carley really kind of step up into that role and come into her own af-ter being hurt most of the season last year,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain. “She didn’t get a full season in as a freshman. So as a sophomore, it’s been pretty dynamic to watch her step into that kill leader role.”

Ulrich’s knack for flooring balls on the opposite side of the net has made her our selection for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: What’s your mindset now that your team is in the playoffs?

Answer: “Just keep working harder and harder every game we play.”

Question: What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve See faced this season?

Answer: “Probably getting over my own mistakes.”

Question: How do you prepare for a match?

Answer: “Just sitting with my girls in the locker room and just talking and being with them.”

Question: Who’s your favorite cartoon and why?

Answer: “Spongebob because of how energetic he is.”

Question: What do you like the most about Coach Coltrain?

Answer: “She just tells us to keep going and helps us through everything.”

Question: Where’s a good pizza place you like to go to?

Answer: “Reba’s”

Question: Who’s a person you usually go to for a word of advice?

Answer: “Probably my mom.”

Question: What are your plans for Halloween?

Answer: “Watching a scary movie.”

Question: If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?

Answer: “A zoologist because I love working with animals.”

Question: What’s a special trait you’ve noticed about La Grange athletics?
