Shorthorns Can’t Hold Halftime Lead, Fall to Rogers 44-23

The Schulenburg Shorthorns had one heck of a second quarter Friday.

But the other three quarters were lackluster and Rogers beat Schulenburg 44-23 in the Shorthorns’ home opener.

After falling behind 16-0, Schulenburg scored 23 second quarter points to take a one-point lead into halftime, but they failed to score in the second half.

Schulenburg quarterback Aaron Janecek ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 110 yards and a TD to Rodney Walton, but the Rogers Eagles were able to amass 444 total yards of their own. The Shorthorns (0-2) next play at Burton (1-1), which is coming off a 27-24 win over Hearne.
