Brooke Schobel is a senior volleyball player at Round Top-Carmine high school and has recently led her team to an undefeated 6-0 start in district. She also paved the way to a state semifinals bid last year and is on stride to do so this year as well. “Brooke comes as a natural leader to our team,” said Round Top-Carmine head volleyball coach Caitie Carney. “She leads by example. She has gotten more verbal in her years, speaking up more and is our team captain this year. She plays a very dynamic role for us, plays all the way around, and she’s a crucial piece of our team.” In Schobel’s last two games vs. Fayetteville and Burton, she’s combined for 23 kills, two solo blocks, three assist blocks, and 26 digs. With these kind of stats, Schobel has ran away with this edition’s Player of the Week honors.

Question: How were you introduced to the game of volleyball?

Answer: “I was introduced at a very young age in elementary school. I started with ‘Little Hitters.’ I think I was in 5th grade. I also played quite a few years of club volleyball, starting at the age of 11 I believe. It’s just kind of grown from there.”

Question: What’s one valuable lesson you’ve learned from this year?

Answer: “I’ve learned that it’s OK to make mistakes. Being in all six rotations, you’re going to mess up sometimes. You just have to roll with the punches and let it go.”

Question: If you could work for one business or company, what would it be and why?

Answer: “I’d probably work for a business that would help people. I like to assist others.”

Question: What’s the best part about being a volleyball player?

Answer: “You get to be with your friends, help lead your team, and just have a good time.”

Question: What other school is your favorite to visit for a sporting event and why?

Answer: “I love to compete against Fayetteville, which is our rival in district. It’s always a good game and good competition.”

Question: Imagine you’ve been awarded your dream house, what kind of significant features would you implement?

Answer: “I’d definitely have a pool because I love to swim. I’d probably have two stories because I love really big houses.”

Question: Out of all the college campuses you’ve visited, which one would you say is the nicest and why?

Answer: “I think Texas A&M is probably the nicest. Plus, it’s also been my dream to go to Texas A&M just because I feel like they have really good programs there.”

Question: If you had the power, what’s something or things would you do in order to make the world a better place?

Answer: “I’d probably just try to make everybody be more accepting of one another because I feel like in today’s society, nobody likes to think about another person’s perspective or their opinion. So I just try to make people get along better.”

Question: Say you’re having a normal day, then all of a sudden you’ve been transferred to a world where you’re stranded on an island. Besides your cell phone, name one item you’d probably have with you and why?

Answer: “I’d probably have some sort of food with me because I bring lots of snacks everyday.”

Questions: How does volleyball help you perform in aspects of everyday life?

Answer: “I think it just makes you a better person. Overall, you learn so many life lessons.”

Schobel has all the quality traits of a outstanding senior athlete and there isn’t any doubt she’ll continue to lead the Cubettes to great things.
