For the first time since 1990, the Fayetteville boys crosscountry team will be competing in the state championship meet as an entire team. The Lions had three runners finish in the top 10 for regionals, which included Cole Fenhaus (2nd), Keagan Supak (5th), and Cash Smith (10th). “This team is unique in the fact that they’re a really close group,” said Fayetteville boy’s cross-country head coach Mitch Madden. “This year, there’s a strong team atmosphere where they’re all pushing each other and running together as a group. They’re striving to be the best on the team. They’re competing day in and day out. I think that’s one of the unique things is how they’re running as a group and pushing each other to become better athletes. It’s been hard with COVID, but they’ve met every challenge on the way. We had a challenge to win district and try to do it as a perfect score, they accomplished that. Most of our top five are freshman and sophomores, then we have some juniors and seniors that finish out the group. Just making that next step as far as winning regions and getting to state, then growing from there.” In this edition’s Player of the Week, we will be honoring Fayetteville boys cross-country as a whole team while they set their sights on a state title.
