Playoff Round-Up: Several Teams Moving On
Lady Horns Advance to Third Round
The Schulenburg softball team beat Refugio in a best-ofthree playoff series last week to advance to the third round.
The Lady Horns beat Refugio 7-4 in the series opener Thursday as Brianna Vavra pitched a complete game fourhitter with 13 strikeouts. Tamara Otto, Keaton Walker and Kassidy Kubala all had multihit games for Schulenburg in the opener.
In Game 2 Friday, Refugio won 7-6 despite Rilee Sanchez and Keaton Walker each driving in two runs for the Lady Horns and Otto getting two more hits.
In Game 3, Schulenburg bounced back to win 9-1 as Vavra pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Kubala had four hits and Hailey Kahlden had three to lead the Lady Horns to that win. The Schulenburg girls (19-9) now advance to face Weimar in the regional quarterfinals at Rice Consolidated.
Game 1 is Thursday at 6 p.m.
Game 2 is Friday at 6 p.m. with a third game to follow Friday, if needed.
La Grange Softball
Season Over
The La Grange softball team saw its season come to an end Friday in Manor as they were swept by Salado in a best-ofthree area round playoff series.
Wednesday in the series opener, La Grange lost 11-2 despite two hits by Madi Schroeder and one by Avery Marshall..
In Friday’s Game 2, La Grange lost 8-1 as Marshall had two hits for the Lady Leps and Schroeder had one.
La Grange ends its season with a 16-17 record.
Salado (26-10) advances to face Burnet in the regional quarterfinals.
Flatonia Baseball
Rolls Onward
The Flatonia baseball team swept Brackettville 9-2 and 11-1 in their first round playoff baseball series last week in Harper.
The Bulldogs (21-5-1) now advance to face Freer in the second round.
The best-of-three series will be in Kenedy. Game 1 is Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at 1 p.m. with a third game to follow is necessary.
Cubs Bash
High Island
The Round Top-Carmine baseball team beat High Island last week 17-7 to advance to play Leakey. Details of that series were not available at press time.
