Normangee Eliminates Lady Horns
The Schulenburg girls hopes of making it back to the state basketball tournament ended Monday with a 64-53 loss to Normangee in the second round of the 2A playoffs.
The Lady Horns finished the season 20-4, and were district champions for the 3rd straight year, and bidistrict champs.
Senior Erica Otto led the Lady Horns in scoring with 22 points.
“Some nights the breaks just don’t go your way and tonight was one of them,” said Schulenburg head coach Phillip Eddins. “Hats off to our seniors, they finished their career with 111 wins and only 29 losses. Their heart, leadership and love for each other and the game will be greatly missed. They have helped make us into one of the elite programs in the state. When I look back over a 25-year career I can honestly say I have enjoyed coaching these three seniors (multi-year starters Otto, Julie Guentert and Morgan Marburger) more than any group I’ve ever had. There was never any drama, they were always ready to go to work, and above all else they carried themselves the way all Lady Horns should. They always hustled, they always had enthusiasm for whatever we were doing, they have the best attitude when it comes to work – classroom, court or life – they know that building relationships is what it is all about. We are a family. They had a toughness about them – ‘no one is better than us and here let us show you.’ They have left huge shoes to fill. I am proud I got to be their coach.”
