Marx Comes Out Swinging For the Lady Horns, Leading Volleyball Team in Kills

Schulenburg junior volleyball player Emmrie Marx has been a force on the offensive end for the Lady Horns. The outside hitter has displayed eagerness to get this team back to the state tournament, notching a team-high 146 kills for the season.

“We knew she was gonna be a valuable asset to our team this year,” said Schulenburg head volleyball coach Donald Zapalac. “Playing outside hitter for us, that’s one of our key positions anyway. She’s really coming along. She struggled a little bit early on, had a rough game on Friday and turned it around on Saturday. Had some really good plays. We’re really expecting her to be something special for us this year.”

Marx’ leap to the top offensively has made her our choice for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: How have you been able to get so many kills this year?

Answer: “I try to stay out of my head and make the least amount of errors as possible. Just go in the game with a clear mind and just do what I need to do.”

Question: If you could play another position besides hitter, what would it

be?

Answer: “I started off playing volleyball as a middle, so I’d probably do that. Tried right side, but it wasn’t really my thing, so I think probably middle.”

Question: What’s your favorite thing about the fall season?

Answer: “I like starting off my school year with a good schedule. I know it gets crazy with tournaments and everything, but once games start, I just enjoy being with my friends and stuff when the school year starts.”

Question: What’s a song that gets you pumped up before games?

Answer: “I don’t know.

Any hype music song.”

Question: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Answer: “Hopefully I’m pretty successful in life, have a steady job, and a family of my own.”

Question: What channel do you watch the most on TV?

Answer: “Probably the true crime channel.”

Question: What’s it going to take for this team to make it back to state?

Answer: “Playing as a whole and not just as an individual. Just working together as a team to do what we need to do and get done what we need to get done.”

Marx knows the task of getting back to state and is doing everything in her power to accomplish it.
