LG Track Gears Up for Regional Meet
Numerous members of the La Grange track team will be competing at the Region III-4A meet in League City Friday and Saturday, all trying to be among the top two in their events so they can advance to the state meet in Austin next month.
Here’s some thoughts from La Grange’s area champs:
Jaren Woods, area discus champ: “I threw 119 (feet in the discus) in Smithville at district and then to go to Giddings and throw 140, I was like wow,” said Woods, whose area title throw was a personal best. “I just did what Coach Scott told me. Anything’s possible when you put your mind to it.”
Hailey Bass, area 400 meter champ and on 4x400 area relay title team: “When you are on a relay you have the team relying on you, there’s more pressure so you can almost force yourself to do better.”
Dylan Truss, area pole vault champ: “I think I did pretty good at the area meet, beat the kid who won state two years ago. I want to try to get at least 16 feet at regionals and maybe 16-6 or 17 at state. That’s my goals. I really want to be at state.”
Lanie Doyle, who advanced to regionals in five events: “It was really exciting, this is my first time to advance in all five events, I was really pushing myself.”
La Grange’s boys 4x100 and 4x200 team: Trey East said, “It was great coming back with two golds.”
“It’s exciting going to regionals,” Jordan Scott said. “I’ve never been there before.”
“We’re hungry for more,” Dana Baker said.
“We’ve just been going out and trying to perform to the best of our ability,” Jonathan (Bravi on) Rogers said.
Ellee Sodolak, who is on the area championship 4x400 relay: “We’re all just trying to make each other better.”
La Grange girls track coach Leslie Coltrain: “Getting to regionals is huge, you’re running against some of the best in the state. These girls have high expectations.”
La Grange boys track coach Rusty Cauthern: “I’m so pleased with the effort they give each and every day.” But can the district and area team titles continue at regionals? “We have a shot, it’s going to take a little luck, but to be the best you have to beat the best, and we consider ourselves one of those – and we’ll go get after it.”
