Leopards Scrimmage Yoakum Here Friday

The La Grange football team will host Yoakum Friday at 7 p.m. in the team’s lone preseason scrimmage.

“It’s always fun to see where we are physically,” La Grange head coach Matt Kates said. “There’s not a lot of true contact in practice, so getting out there to truly tackle people is something you can only get in scrimmages versus someone else.

Yoakum was just 4-7 last year but returns 10 offensive and eight defensive starters and they are ranked No. 20 in the state in 3A Division I. Kates said the Bulldogs will be a good prep for the Leps’ season-opening opponent, No. 7-ranked Rockdale (whom the Leps host Friday, Aug. 28).

The JV and freshmen will begin Friday’s scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on opposite sides of Leopard Stadium. The varsities will begin their scrimmage at about 7 p.m.
