Lady Leps Blast LBJ, Improve Record to 21-7
One trip through district play down - one to go
The La Grange girls basketball team reached the midway point of district play Friday as they overcame a slow start and blew things open in the second half of a 51-22 win over Austin LBJ.
Both these teams had came into the night tied for second in the district standings, but not anymore.
“I told the girls yesterday that LBJ was better than they were last year, they are more athletic, they use their size well,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “I don’t think we expected that and it took us a little time to adjust. Early on in the game, you give them confidence and they feel like they can play with you, but we had a good third quarter that took the wind out of them and were able to build on that.”
La Grange was led in scoring by junior Camille Gonzalez, who scored 15.
Senior Aysia Grant added 13.
The Lady Leps led by just seven at halftime, but outscored LBJ 16-3 in the third quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Leps are now 21-7 overall and 5-1 in district. That leaves them one game behind first place Giddings in the district standing. La Grange plays at Giddings Friday.
“We’re looking forward to it and we’ll see what happens,” Golan said.
Before that, La Grange will host Austin Eastside Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. (varsity only). The Lady Leps beat Eastside by 56 points the first time they played a month ago.
