La Grange’s Homer Bailey Trying To Work His Way Back to the Majors

Homer Bailey

La Grange’s Homer Bailey is back in pro baseball, though his return has been rough so far.

Bailey, 35, who was a major league pitcher for 14 seasons after being drafted No. 7 in the nation overall back in 2004 after leading La Grange High School to a pair of state titles, was signed to a minor league deal with Oakland two weeks ago.

His first outing was July 5 with the A’s rookie league affiliate as Bailey pitched opposite another legendary hurler working his way back, Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner.

Bailey pitched just twothirds of an inning allowing two hits and two runs and striking out one. Then last Saturday, July 10, Bailey pitched three innings against the Cubs rookie ball affiliate, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out five.
