La Grange vs. Columbus

Of Note: The Leps had a rough season opener last week in a 68-20 loss to 4A No. 8. Bellville. It gets no easier as the Leps host Class 3A No. 4-ranked Columbus this week. The Cardinals return five starters on each side of the ball from last year’s 12-2 team. Columbus is coming off a 47-12 win over Giddings last week in which quarterback Adam Schobel threw for 209 yards on 11 of 14 passing with three touchdowns. Tyvone Whitehead ran for two touchdowns and 91 yards on just five carries. The Leps threw for 202 yards last week as QBs Clayton Cooper and Bennett Barber split time. La Grange ran for just 38 yards and gave up 506 rushing yards.

Last meeting: Columbus defeated La Grange 44-7 last season as Cardinals quarterback Adam Schobel threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns. La Grange’s lone touchdown came on a 75-yard kick-off return by Jakobe Wilkerson.
