La Grange Track Dominance Continues as District Meet Approaches

The La Grange boys and girls track teams had their final tune-up meet last week at the Swamp Relays at Rice Consolidated before the district meet this Wednesday and Thursday in Smithville.

The La Grange varsity boys placed second with 187 points, just behind meet champ El Campo, which had 190.

The La Grange girls ran away with the team title, earning 210 points, way ahead of second place El Campo, which had 117.

Now the La Grange athletes can focus on district.

“The kids have busted their tails to get better every day and that’s what we are doing,” said La Grange boys track Coach Rusty Cauthern. “That is our first and foremost goal every year, to win district, and after that it’s to go as far as we can. Last year would have been a three-peat (for La Grange boys team district track titles), missed that because of COVID, but we’re counting it.”

“It’s been a fun season so far,” said La Grange girls track coach Leslie Coltrain, whose girls have won the team titles of every meet they’ve been to this season, with the exception of the Bryan meet. “Numbers of kids we’ve had come out this year has been great, and not just numbers but quality numbers, kids participating and contributing ... That’s our hope, a district title, that’s what we are aiming for.”
