Cuero 53

La Grange JV Purple 8

La Grange JV Purple lost 53-8 to a very good Cuero team. However, there were some bright spots that we look forward to building on as we move forward in district play. One of those was a beautiful 79 yard touchdown pass from Bennett Barber to Austen Diggs.

Here is the 8th grade football teams score/reports from Lexington on October 1 and Cuero last week, October 8.

8th grade B team played to a valiant victory vs. Lexington on October 1 defeating the Eagles 22-6. After Jylances Johnson recovered a fumble, the Leopards scored on a 3 yd. pass from Tye Johnson to Dalton Landis. Thiery Ortiz scored the 2 pt. conversion over the left edge. The Leps next scored on a 40 yd. scamper to the right by Corey Powell and converted the 2 pt. play by a pass from Tye Johnson to Landis. Landis, Levi Ried and Holden Cooper were a thorn in the Eagle’s quarterback’s side the entire 1st half. The Leopards finished out scoring on a 20 yard pass from Jaylances Johnson to Peyton Cassell. The conversion pass from J. Johnson to Landis failed by near inches. Cooper was again a thorn in the Lexington quarterbacks side by recording two 2nd half sacks.

8th grade A team lost a heartbreaker to Lexington 32-24. Incomplete passes with a lack of interference calls exacerbated the effort. The Leopards played tough and showed no signs of quitting! Touchdowns were scored by Max Dixon on a 20 yard run off the right side followed by a 2 pt. conversion pass from Dixon to Kameron Leonard. The second score was on a Leonard 60 run around the far left side follwed by a 2pt conversion run by Dixon. The last touchdown came on a 4 yd. touchdown pass from Dixon to Leonard followed by another Dixon run for the 2 pt. conversion. The last touchdown was set up by a Le’Kayvion Broussard blocked punt that was recovered by Javier Cuevas.

The 8th Grade B team traveled to Cuero last week, October 8th for their first District matchup. While the game resulted in the B-team’s first loss of the season, there were a few bright spots. Kyler Lamza threw a 30 yd strike to Orlando Solorazano for touchdown and immediately followed it up with a pass to Dalton Landis for a 2 pt. conversion. Corey Powell scored on a 35 yd. reverse again followed with a Lamza to Landis Conversion. Wesley Kulhanek exploited the Cuero offensive line for several tackles for loss.

The Leopard 8th grade A team again fell in a close one to the Gobblers 28-24. The Leopards got off to a strong start scoring twice in the first quarter on a 30 yd. run to the right by Max Dixon and on a Dixon defensive strip and scamper for 70 yards. The first 2 pt. conversion failed, but the second was successful by a Dixon to Kameron Leonard pass. Both teams then exchanged turnovers with a Leopard fumble and interception and a Gobbler fumble recovered by Elijah Haardt. The score was tied up going into half at 14 after Cuero held onto the ball the remainder of the 2nd quarter. The lone bright spot there was Le’Kayvion Broussard screaming down the sideline 90 yards for a safety on a Gobbler extra point. The second half resulted in only 3 offensive plays for the Leopards as they touched the ball for the first time in the half with 6:30 remaining in the game. That one play was a fumble resulting in a Gobbler TD. The Leopards next touched the ball with 2:30 left in the game and only needed two plays to score on a 75 yd touchdown pass from Dixon to Haardt. Dixon kept the ball for the 2 pt. conversion. The onside kick failed and the Leopards never saw the ball again.

Both the 8B and 8A will resume District play at home October 22 vs. Gonzales.
