La Grange Softball Team Falls in Playoff Opener

The La Grange softball team saw its season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion Thursday in a 3-2 loss to Gateway Prep in the first round of the 4A playoffs in Elgin.

La Grange led this one 2-0 after scoring single runs on both the first and third innings.

Haylie Cooper scored both of those runs, driven in each time by La Grange’s Abby Dela Rosa.

Meanwhile, Gateway Prep could not get anything going early against Dela Rosa, who was pitching for the Leps. But in the seventh inning they scored a pair of runs to tie the game.

Gateway Prep pushed across a single run in the eighth to get the win, and advances to play Waco Connally in the next round.

La Grange just managed five hits Thursday, two each by Cooper and Dela Rosa, and one by Sarah Kay.

La Grange ends its season with a 17-10 record and a district title. Dela Rosa was the team’s only senior.
