La Grange Softball and Baseball Start Seasons Strong

La Grange players work on the wet softball field Thursday.

The La Grange baseball and softball team have jumped out to impressive starts to their seasons.

The Leps opened the baseball season with four games at the Madisonville tournament and went 3-1.

The Leps beat Fairfield and Woodville Thursday and lost to Madisonville before beating Franklin 11-6 Saturday.

Details of those games were not available at press time.

The Leps play at Wimberley Tuesday and then at the Cameron Tournament this weekend.

Meanwhile, the rainy weather last week forced most of the games at the La Grange softball tournament to be moved to the artificial turf field in Columbus, but that didn’t stop the Lady Leps from excelling. The La Grange girls went 4-1 in the tourney to improve their overall record to 5-1.

Thursday the Lady Leps beat Cedar Creek 11-1 as Missy Muras and Natalie Blackwell homered and Marissa Gonzales pitched a no-hitter.

Friday the La Grange girls beat Victoria East 6-5 as Blackwell and Abigail Dela Rosa homered and Dela Rosa pitched a complete game. Also on Friday La Grange beat Thorndale 5-4 as Dela Rosa homered again and pitched another complete game.

Saturday La Grange lost to East Bernard 10-0 but beat Yoakum 13-0 as Dela Rosa pitched a no-hitter and Alyssa Dela Rosa scored three runs and Madison Schroeder drove in three runs.
