Jason Meng Returning To Leps Football as Offensive Coordinator
At Monday’s board meeting the La Grange ISD trustees approved the hiring of Jason Meng as a new coach and his wife Jaclyn as an elementary teacher.
Both worked at LGISD from 2010-2012.
Leopard football fans may remember Jason Meng’s name. He served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Leps the two years he was here – head coach Matt Kates’ first two years in La Grange.
He will again take over the OC duties.
“We’ve been best friends since fourth grade. He and his wife are about the closest thing we have to family, besides our actual family,” Kates said.
Kates said Meng’s arrival should jump-start the La Grange passing game.
“A lot of us in that offensive room, our background is in running the football. Jason’s going to make us more efficient throwing the football,” Kates said.
After leaving La Grange in 2012, Meng coached at Richland High School under Ged Kates (Matt’s older brother) for two years and then as an offensive coordinator in Elgin before becoming the head coach at Granger, where he went 14-9 in two years.
The last four years he was head coach at 4A Burkburnett, compiling an 8-31 record.
“It was the right time for myself and my family to go back to a place we’re familiar with and really loved,” Meng told the Wichita Falls newspaper. “It’s a great town, a great place. (Kates) and I grew up together, and it’s an opportunity to get back together. When he got the job there 11 years ago, I was there with him on his first day. We’ve got a little unfinished business there.”
The Mengs have three sons, Hayden, who will be a senior and started school here back in 2010 as a kindergartener. He was an honorable mention all-district defensive lineman last year at Burkburnett; and also Bear, who will be a freshmen, and Landry, who will be a fourth grader.
