Janecek’s 4 TDs Earns County Athlete of the Week Title

Schulenburg football player Aaron Janecek is the starting quarterback for the Shorthorns and had himself a game in Schulenburg’s first win of the season over Burton High School with a score of 35-21, snapping Schulenburg’s 13game losing skid.

Janecek threw for 74 yards, but it was his production on the ground that played a huge part in the victory as he rushed for 148 yards and found the end zone four times with his legs.

Janecek is the younger brother of former Schulenburg starting quarterback and former Athlete of the Week Brett Janecek, and his dad was on two state title football teams at Schulenburg.

“He’s awesome,” said first-year Schulenburg head football coach Luke Hobbs. “He’s a kid we completely trust with the offense. He’s a guy that won the quarterback battle and hasn’t looked back since. He’s gotten better every single day. I’ve been really impressed with his character, with his toughness. He runs the ball hard, he’s been smart with his decisions throwing the football. Aaron has just had a really, really good three weeks of football so far and I’m very proud of him.”

Janecek stepping up and giving results in the starting quarterback role has made him our selection for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: What kind of things have you learned from your brother when it comes to the quarterback position? Answer: “He’s taught me everything I know just throwing the football in the backyard.”

Question: How did you celebrate your first win of the season?

Answer: “It felt great. It was my first varsity win on this field, or in general. I mean, everyone was crying. It was just a great feeling.”

Question: Who’s a teammate you throw to the most during a game?

Answer: “I throw to Byron Johnson, number nine, or number 11 Jayse Janda.”

Question: If Schulenburg changed its colors from black and orange and they asked you to pick the new colors, which colors would you pick?

Answer: “I guess orange and white.”

Question: How has Coach Hobbs changed the culture at Schulenburg?

Answer: “He’s just really motivational and he’s taught us everything. His offense is really easy to learn and it works.”

Question: What’s your favorite pizza place?

Answer: “Probably Hunt Brothers pizza.”

Question: If you were given the money to buy one thing of your choice, what would it be and why?

Answer: “Probably a really expensive car because they’re cool.”

Question: Who’s a college

quarterback you look up to? Answer: “Former quarterback, probably Johnny Manziel or Tim Tebow.”

Question: If you didn’t play quarterback, what position would you be playing?

Answer: “Probably receiver.”

Question: What are some positive things you’ve noticed about Schulenburg athletics?

Answer: “We really turn things around with our coaching staff. Everybody’s happy to be here and get us fired up for every game, every practice.”
