La Grange vs. Taylor

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: La Grange

Records: La Grange is 1-2. Taylor is 0-3.

Of Note: This is the first week of the season where La Grange plays a team that is not undefeated coming into the game as the winless Ducks arrive in La Grange for a homecoming contest ... Taylor opened the season with a 26-21 loss to Waco Robinson, followed by a 55-21 loss to Rockdale and then a 46-21 loss to Giddings last week. The Taylor defense gave up a number of big plays on the ground in that game against Giddings, while against Rockdale, the Ducks allowed 278 yards passing. Taylor sophomore quarterback Bryson Bass is dangerous. He ran for 135 yards against Robinson and ran for three touchdowns against Rockdale .... La Grange is still soaring emotionally after the Leps rallied from an 18-point fourth quarter deficit to stun La Vernia last week 32-28. Senior quarterback Caden Cooper threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more and passed for 337 yards. Sophomore receiver Bravion Rogers had eight catches for 209 yards and a huge fourth quarter interception to set up the gamewinning score.

Last meeting: Taylor lost to La Grange 52-24 last season as Matthew Johnston ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns and threw for three touchdowns to Ryder Imhoff.

Schulenburg is having a resurgent year under new head coach Walt Brock and has outscored their three opponents 126 to 13 so far this season after beating Stockdale 40-0, Brazos 58-6 and Yorktown 28-7... Schulenburg’s Kenny King has been dangerous any time he’s touched the ball and had a touchdown catch and a 59-yard touchdown run in the first half last week to give the Shorthorns a lead they would never lose .... Flatonia has been equally impressive this season outscoring their opponents 86-19 in wins over Runge, Stockdale and Falls City 34-7 last week in the first game on the new turf at Bulldog Stadium.
