Horns’ Versatile Giant Alex Lozano Is Fayette County Athlete of the Week

Schulenburg senior basketball player Alex Lozano is a 6’8” center that flourishes in all parts of the game. He utilizes his long arms for rebounding and blocking shots and also has one of, if not the best, three point stroke on the team. Lozano played a key part in the Shorthorns road to the state tournament by hitting clutch shots in the postseason and causing problems for teams down in the paint and low block. The game of basketball is evolving in a way that big men are beginning to develop an outside shot at the college and pro level, but to have a player with Lozano’s height and skill set from the perimeter at the high school level is rare. The body of work he has produced in a phenomenal season for the Shorthorns. Lozano is this edition’s Player of the Week.

Question: Can you explain your presence down low and your effectiveness throughout the season?

Answer: “Always strive to play great defense to help my teammates get out in transition. I just tried to rebound as much as I could so I could get my teammates opportunities to run with it”

Question: What intrigued you to the game of basketball?

Answer: “Probably my dad. He passed away when he was young. He always played basketball so I just started trying.”

Question: What would you say was the turning point in such a great season?

Answer: “Probably when we were going to playoffs. We knew we could get this far. We were just excited to be here.”

Basketball is something that Lozano can take with him wherever he goes as he embarks on his next chapter in life.
