Green Earn’s FCR Player of the Week Nod after Winning Flatonia QB Role
The Flatonia Bulldogs football team has started the season 2-0 with homecoming night on the horizon and a debut of their new turf field. Sophomore Keyshaun Green has played a huge part in the team’s early success, recently earning the starting role as quarterback.
“First of all, Keyshaun is a great young man,” said Flatonia head football coach Chris Freytag. “I have a son the same age and he’s at the house a lot. Very respectful.”
Not only did Green secure his spot as quarterback, he led the team with 79 rushing yards last Friday in a 25-6 win against Stockdale, which included a 47- yard run for a touchdown.
“A natural born leader is how I’d describe him,” Freytag said. “We struggled a little bit early at the quarterback position and we just felt that we had to make a change.”
Green played quarterback in 7th and 8th grade, but he didn’t play the position at all last year because he was a freshman on varsity, mostly being utilized on the defensive side of the ball.
“He was a little rusty, but I went to him and asked him if he’d be willing to change and said he’d do whatever he could to help the team. So last week, he went out there with about three or four days of practice and really put on a show. I’m really proud of him. The team’s rallied behind him. He just really did a great job last Friday. Continuing to improve is what we expect.”
Green will enter the new turf on homecoming night with a Player of the Week nomination under his belt.
Question: Which sport would you say you’re better at, football or basketball and why?
Answer: “I’d probably say football. I just feel like I’m better out there. I just got a better feel for it than basketball.”
Question: What’s your favorite position in football?
Answer: “I do love quarterback. Quarterback is very fun to play. But I also love defense. Defense just gets me going. I’d have to say quarterback.”
Question: If you had to choose, which NFL player would you say you most resemble?
Answer: “Probably somewhere around Kyler Murray. Not as fast. He’s kind of quick and I’m kind of quick.”
Question: What are your thoughts on the new turf field?
Answer: “It’s great. I can’t wait to play on Friday. It’ll be homecoming, everybody will come out, we’ll go out there and try to get a ‘W’ and have a good time.”
Question: Which video game do you prefer, Madden or NBA2k?
Answer: “2k. Got to go with 2k.”
Question: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Answer: “I guess I’m gonna have to go with wings.”
Question: In your opinion, what’s the best movie of all time?
Answer: “Transformers. Just the series in general.”
Question: What college would you say has the best major sport programs?
Answer: “Alabama”
Question: If you had to pick one stadium to play football in, college or pro, what would it be?
Answer: “I’d have to play at the dome in New Orleans.”
Question: Who do you have winning this year’s Super Bowl and why?
Answer: “My team, the Saints. I got them winning because they’ve still got a good team.”
Anchoring the Bulldogs with his arm and legs, Green is an essential part to Flatonia football and should remain so through the course of his high school tenure.
