Schulenburg vs. Hearne
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Schulenburg Records: Schulenburg is 2-3 overall and 1-0 in district. Hearne is 1-3 and 0-0.
Of Note: It’s homecoming week in Schulenburg and the Shorthorns are flying high after last week’s 41-40 overtime win over Thorndale but now they face a tough Hearne team that is probably a lot better than their 1-3 record indicates. Hearne has lost two of their games by a combined nine points. Last time out they lost to undefeated Chilton 19-13 before being off last week. In their win last week, Schulenburg got six rushing touchdowns from Aaron Janecek. These teams have one common opponent, Burton, which Schulenburg beat 35-21 and Hearne lost to 27-24.
Last meeting: Last season Hearne defeated Schulenburg 43-22 as the Eagles threw for 368 yards. Rodney Walton did run for two TDs in that game for Schulenburg.
Flatonia vs. Thorndale
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Flatonia Records: Flatonia is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in district. Thorndale is 0-5 and 0-1.
Of Note: Two teams in need of a win battle in this one. Flatonia is coming off a seven point loss to Thrall in their district opener, while Thorndale lost 41-40 in overtime to Schulenburg. Kobe Burton has been a scoring machine for Flatonia this year with nine TDs already. Thorndale had real trouble stopping the Schulenburg running game last week, allowing 388 rushing yards. Thorndale QB Gunner Ferguson is a sharp passer. He completed nine of 12 passes for 229 yards last week, but he did throw two interceptions.
Last meeting: Flatonia defeated Thorndale 37-13 last year as Fidel Venegas ran for two touchdowns and threw for another.
