La Grange vs. Lago Vista

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: La Grange Records: La Grange is 0-3 and Lago Vista is 1-2.

Of Note: After a frustrating 45-0 loss at La Vernia last week the Leps are in need of a positive outing this week against a Lago Vista team that is coming off a 31-12 victory over Giddings last week. Vikings QB Dominic Garcia threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns last week, and Lago Vista also ran for over 200 yards ... The Leps, meanwhile, only managed 109 yards of total offense against La Vernia last week, but senior Thai Scott, who has been an impact player on both sides of the ball, is expected back this week after missing last week with an injury ... Lago Vista returns just three starters on each side of the ball from a team that went 10-3 last season. RB Wyatt Herring is their leading returnee, he ran for 83 yards last week.

Last meeting: Last season Lago Vista beat La Grange 36-2.

Schulenburg vs. Poth

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Schulenburg Records: Schulenburg is 1-2. Poth is 2-1.

Of Note: Schulenburg can’t celebrate its first victory of the season too long as defending state finalist Poth comes to town in what might be the Shorthorns’ toughest opponent of the entire regular season. Poth is coming off a 31-7 win over Shiner and the Pirates were 14-2 last season and return six offensive and seven defensive starters from last season ... Meanwhile, the Shorthorns are looking to build on last week’s 35-21 win over Burton during which QB Aaron Janecek ran for four touchdowns and 148 yards. The Schulenburg defense limited Burton to just 195 yards in that game, which snapped a 13-game losing streak for the Shorthorns.

Last meeting: Poth defeated Schulenburg 55-0 last season as the Pirates limited the Shorthorns to just 88 total yards.

Flatonia vs. Falls City

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Falls City 2022 Records: Flatonia is 2-1 Falls City is 1-2.

Of Note: The Beavers beat Three Rivers 48-33 in the season opener, but have since lost to Poth 33-0 and Stockdale 24-21. Falls City is led by dual-threat sophomore quarterback Braylon Johnson who is averaging 132 yards per game rushing and 52 yards per game passing. Flatonia is averaging 264 yards per game on the ground, but has done so using a herd of players – ten Bulldogs have carried the ball already this season. Last week the Bulldogs needed second half touchdowns from Kobe Burton and Beck Zimmerman to beat Nixon-Smiley on homecoming. Rambo Ramirez leads the Bulldogs in tackles with 25 Last meeting: Flatonia defeated Falls City 42-14 last year as Fidel Venegas threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two TDs.
