Friday Football Preview
La Grange vs. Lago Vista
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Lago Vista
Records: LG is 2-2. Lago Vista is 2-1.
Of Note: Lago Vista comes into this game with a pretty stout defense but not much offense. La Grange actually scored more points in the first half last week than Lago Vista has scored total all season long. The Vikings (the preseason favorite to win District 13-3A) opened the season with a pair of wins over 3A schools, a 22-7 win over Teague followed by a 20-0 win over Caldwell. But last week Lago Vista lost 12-0 to undefeated 3A Little River Academy 13-0. Lago Vista went 6-5 last season. They have a pair of strong running backs and a tall receiving corps .... La Grange is flying high with two consecutive wins, a big comeback to down La Vernia two weeks ago, and then last week’s 48-20 win over Taylor that was decided early as the Leps scored all 48 points before halftime. D.J. Taylor ran for three TDs last week, and receiver Bravion Rogers now had more than 300 yards receiving just in the last two games combined. The Leps had three takeaways in special teams last week, and kicker Jackson Bundick has emerged as a big weapon.

Schulenburg vs. Weimar
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Schulenburg
Records: Schlenburg is 4-0 and 1-0 in district. Weimar is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district.
Of Note: Schulenburg goes from going west on Interstate 10 to face longtime rival Flatonia last week, to welcoming historic eastern I-10 foe Weimar ... The Wildcats went 10-2 last season but graduated a lot of talent from that 2019 team and had some early injuries this season which has led to some lopsided struggles. The Wildcats lone win was a 51-35 victory over Luling two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Weimar has lost to Tidehaven, Yorktown and Ganado, each by at least 19 points ... Junior quarterback Joey Ramirez has been the big weapon for the Wildcats, he has thrown for 340 yards with 2 TDs and 6 INTs and also leads the team in rushing with 407 yards and 6 TDs ... Schulenburg is coming off a 21-18 win over previously unbeaten Flatonia, but the win came with a cost of some injuries. The Shorthorn defense hadn’t allowed more than seven points in a game this season before they faced the Bulldogs. Shorthorn senior quarterback Brett Janecek was a perfect 5-for-5 passing last week against Flatonia ... After this game both team teams have a COVID bye week.
Last meeting: The last time Schulenburg played Weimar was in the second game of the season last year and the Wildcats won 27-9 as they limited the Shorthorns to just 169 total yards. The Shorthorns didn’t score until the fourth quarter in that game. Schulenburg did beat Weimar 28-21 in 2018.
Flatonia vs. Shiner
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Shiner
Records: Flatonia 3-1 overall and 0-1 in district. Shiner is 4-0 and 0-0 in district.
Of Note: Things were going so well for Flatonia before last week. The Bulldogs had started the season 3-0 and had not allowed more than a single touchdown in any of those three games but then lost to Schulenburg 21-18. The difference ended up being Schulenburg made all three of their extra points and the Bulldogs failed on all three kicks/conversions. Flatonia QB Keyshaun Green has thrown for 302 yards and run for 195. Chris Johnston scored all three touchdowns for Flatonia last week ... Now the Bulldogs face the No. 1 ranked 2A Div. 1 team in the state Shiner, which is coming off a 13-7 overtime win over No. 5-ranked 3A team East Bernard. Shiner ran for 333 yards in that game, but turned the ball over on seven of their 12 possessions. This will be the Comanches first game of the season against a fellow 2A team.
Last meeting: The last time Flatonia played Shiner was in the third round of the 2015 playoffs when Shiner won 41-7.
